Masters in Educational Technology (MAET)
From BEGINNING to BEYOND
It was my third year as a Career and Technology Education Teacher
at Tatum ISD. I began to settle into my role as an educator. In the
teaching profession you are considered beginner until your fifth
year. My technical skills grew every year with the resources I
now had available to me. Those resources consisted of
veteran teachers and staff development days required
by the school district. In my statement for MAET admission,
I stated that our school district was in the beginning stages
of 21st century skills, which invloves areas such as
collaboration communication, creativity, critical thinkng, and
technology skills. I wanted to be a major part of the building
process, and I needed to learn more about the role that
technology plays in education.
Looking back at my past goals, made me more confident in the skills and knowledge I have obtained in the MAET program. I have a deeper understanding of the vision our school distrcit will be able to reach. I have experience with the TPACK framework, which will aid in creating programs and purchasing materials that will enhance the thinking of our students. In the concluding days of the program, I have found myself as a self proclaimed “Technology Specialist”. Teachers have technology questions for me on a regular basis, along with students who are not enrolled in my classes. I feel that my education at Michigan State has prepared me for my future as a technology leader.
My new goal will be to visit with our district Superintendent about the advantages and future of having a Technology Educator. With an emphasis being placed on becoming a more technological advanced school, I believe my education has prepared me the creation of this job title, along with my desire and passion to see technology used in education. I see in my classroom daily how the mind reacts and promotes creativity for learning.
